Yate

Yate ligger 19 km nordøst for Bristol i fylke South Gloucestershire. I 2001 Yate hadde 21 789 innbyggere. Chipping Sodbury er sammenhengende med Yate i øst. Yate har røtter langt tilbake og er nevnt i anglosakser krønikerene for over 1000 år siden. J.K. Rowling, forfatteren av Harry Potter bøkene kommer fra Yate ;-)


Yate is a town in South Gloucestershire, England, at the southwest extremity of the Cotswold Hills, 12 miles (19 km) northeast of the city of Bristol. At the 2001 census the population was 21,789. The town of Chipping Sodbury (population 5,066) is contiguous with Yate to the east. Yate developed from a village into a new town in the 1960s, partly as an overspill or commuter town for the city of Bristol. Yate is mentioned more than 1000 years ago in the Saxon Chronicles. J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books was born in Yate ;-)
